MyBroadband reported that Eastern Cape’s acting chief director for transport regulations, Xolisa Jakula, confirmed there are efforts underway to return the service by the end of the week.
"The machine is reported to have not been working for two weeks now, and there is an indication that processes are underway to ensure that by the end of this week, it is operational,” Jakula told MyBroadband.
According to MyBroadband, when the machine broke down in November 2021, it took until January 2022 before it was back in working condition.

Reportedly, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said that the machine would have to be sent to Germany to be fixed, however, it was later confirmed that the machine never left SA.
According to Mbalula, the current licence printing machine is the only one operating anywhere in the world due to its old age.
