SPAR provides R500,000 in vouchers for frontline workers
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
To all frontline medical workers: Thank you. We see you. #TakeABreak with SPAR.
Going to work during this COVID-19 pandemic has placed frontline workers under immense and unprecedented pressure, putting their physical, mental, and social well-being at risk. This is the warning from the World Health Organisation, that exposure to excessive stress for prolonged periods may have many harmful consequences on the emotional and mental well-being of frontline workers.
These workers also face physical exhaustion, stigma, separation from their families and loved-ones, and the pain of constantly losing patients and colleagues. Hugo Minnaar spoke to Breakfast with Martin Bester on Friday morning. Hugo is one of these workers. As a Critical Care Technologist, he works in the ICU wards of ten Gauteng hospitals and several private practices. He is also a former paramedic. Hugo and his colleagues in the medical sector have seen and lived through the worst of COVID-19. They are the soldiers on the frontline of the World War raging against an invisible enemy.

As an acknowledgement of the hard, life-threatening, and selfless jobs our frontline workers are doing day in and day out, SPAR will be handing out R500,000 in vouchers for these workers to #TakeABreak. The message from SPAR on behalf of all of us: "We are deeply grateful to you for all the sacrifices that you are making every day. This voucher contains R50,00. As a thank you SPAR would like you to take a 10 minute break with a coffee, chocolate or a piece of cake. #Takeabreak."
