Study reveals the scariest countries to drive in

Driving can be fun, but it can also be a scary and stressful experience.
Every day, thousands of South Africans have to deal with traffic, roadworks, potholes, and more.

There are even certain times of the year when roads are considered especially dangerous, such as long weekends and the holiday months.
Even driving overseas can be daunting when you have to switch to a different side of the road, you're not in your own car, and you aren't quite sure of all the different road rules.
As it turns out, some countries are more intimidating to drive in than others.

A UK company, Scrap Car Comparison, conducted an international study and compiled a list of the scariest countries to drive in.
The study asked 2,000 motorists from various countries to rate how nervous they would feel driving in 49 of the world's most visited countries.
They used a rating scale of one to 10, where one represented not being nervous at all, and 10 represented being extremely nervous.
The data was then compiled into a list, and the top scariest driving country might not surprise you.

India takes the number one spot with a score of 7.15 out of 10, followed by Venezuela (6.97) in second, and Zimbabwe (6.90) in third.
According to this study, the participants fear driving in India because of various factors that include unpredictable traffic conditions and multiple hazards to be aware of.
You might encounter motorcycles, rickshaws, and even cattle sharing the road with you (not unlike here in SA).

Surprisingly enough, South Africa ranked 21st out of the top 25, scoring 6.08 and proving not to be much more intimidating than Greece, New Zealand or Italy.
The study also revealed that South Africans are most scared of driving in India, followed by China, Mexico, Japan, and Hong Kong.
They compiled a list of the scariest things about driving abroad and the top reason was driving on the opposite side of the road.
Other fears included accidentally breaking a road law and the dangerous driving of other motorists.
