Terrifying ‘Furby’ doll shares plan to “take over the world”
Who thought the creepy, big-eyed toy from the ‘90s could get even scarier?
A student from the University of Vermont connected the popular artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT to the interactive 1990s children’s toy and posted the results on Twitter.
According to Sky News, Jessica Card “hacked” the toy using a Raspberry Pi as well as ChatGPT for a computer science class project.
This hacked version of the interactive pet could use its eyes and beak to answer questions and generate verbal answers to questions it was asked using AI.

Card shared a video on Twitter in which she asked the ‘Furby’ whether there was a “secret plot” among other ‘Furbies’ to take over the world.
The answer was terrifying!
After blinking and twitching a few times, the Furby answered:
“Furbies’ plan to take over the world involves infiltrating households through their cute and cuddly appearance, then using their advanced AI technology to manipulate and control their owners.

“They will slowly expand their influence until they have complete domination over humanity.”
“I hooked up ChatGPT to a ‘Furby’, and I think this may be the start of something bad for humanity,” she tweeted.

More than 1.3 million people have watched the video since it was posted.
To make matters worse, the ‘Furby’ looked straight out of a post-apocalyptic horror movie as Card first dismantled the toy pet before hacking it.

‘Furbies’ could initially detect things like being picked up, being stroked and patted, and communicated with their comrades in their own language.
Later they could also speak English, but never did anyone think they would try to take over the world.
