Thabo Bester could have left South Africa: Forensic Psychologist
Updated | By Etienne Bruwer
Martin Bester spoke to Gérard Labuschagne, an investigative forensic psychologist, about the story on everyone's lips - Thabo Bester.
Dr Gérard Labuschange spoke to Martin Bester about the Thabo Bester saga.
Dr Labuschange interviewed Bester back in 2011. He was called in to interview the infamous 'Facebook Rapist' in an attempt to find out more information on allegations of rape, murder, and scams levelled against Bester.
On Thursday, the forensic psychologist discussed the profile of 'Thabo Bester' and his escape from prison.

According to Dr Labuschange, Bester has become much better at criminal activities; from simple theft to escaping prison.

In 2011, Thabo Bester was tried and convicted for the rape of two women he had targeted through Facebook. He became known as the 'Facebook Rapist'.
While in prison, it was believed that he had died in May 2022 when his cell went up in flames, leaving only a burnt body as evidence that Bester had been there.
As it turns out, the body that was found in the wreckage of the fire did not belong to Thabo Bester.

There is now an ongoing investigation and the search for the real Thabo Bester.
Dr Labuschagne believes that more people were involved in Bester's escape.
"Guards would have had to be bribed in order for Thabo Bester to escape."

When asked where Bester could be currently, Dr Labuschagne said: "He could very possibly be outside of the country. He probably went to one of our neighbouring countries to continue conning people."
