Police Minister Senzo Mchunu recently released the third-quarter crime statistics for the 2024/2025 financial year, covering the period from 1 October to 31 December 2024.
He acknowledged that crime remains a major issue, particularly in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, and the Western Cape.
According to Pretoria Rekord, an average of 75.5 people were murdered per day across South Africa during this period.
While this number remains alarmingly high, it represents a decrease compared to the same quarter in the previous financial year. Additionally, approximately 128 rape cases were reported daily during the third quarter.
