Ghana is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Africa.

The country is rich in history and was the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence. On 6 March 1957, it gained its independence from the British. This led to the country's name being changed from 'The Gold Coast' to Ghana, which means “warrior king” in the Soninke language.

It is a small country in the West Africa region, but is one of the most beautiful.

This African country is a tourist attraction because of its stunning landscapes, beaches, rainforests, and grasslands.

There are seven tourist attractions that are a must-see in Ghana:

Mount Afadjato

Mount Afadjato is Ghana’s highest mountain with stunning views.

The mountain is located in the country's eastern region and offers visitors breathtaking landscape views. It is the highest point in Ghana.

This is an excellent spot for hiking, though reaching the top would require a lot of determination. Take heart; the views are worth every step!

Kakum National Park

Ghana is blessed with outstanding national parks.

Kakum National Park is a tropical rainforest reserve and one of Ghana’s most visited attractions.

What makes this park such a hit is its seven suspension bridges which form a 333-meter long canopy walkway.

Visitors will get to see various forms of wildlife, from several types of birds to monkeys.

The park also has camping facilities for those who want to spend time in the forest.

Mole National Park

Another popular tourist destination is Mole National Park. According to the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, it is the largest and most prestigious protected area in Ghana under the aegis of the Wildlife Department.

The park has rich flora and fauna. Some of the animals visitors get to see include elephants, buffalo, kob, western hartebeest, roan antelope, waterbuck, oribi, reedbuck, red-flanked duiker, yellow-backed Duiker, and black and white Colobus monkeys. There are also lions, leopards, and hyenas, as well as hundreds of different types of birds.

Legon Botanical Gardens
