Understanding ADHD during Mental Health Awareness Month
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
ADHD is a chronic condition which involves attention difficulty, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness.

The condition is fairly common and impacts focus, self-control, and other skills important in daily life.
There was a lot of feedback and comments about ADHD from listeners during Mental Health Awareness Month on Breakfast with Martin Bester.
Shedding some light on the condition is singer and 'The Voice' entrant Petro de Villiers, who suffers from ADHD and was diagnosed from a young age.
De Villiers says: ”We have a different way of thinking so once we like something we hyperfocus. I don't like the word 'disorder'. I would rather call it a different way of focusing. If you don't get the right support, it might make things difficult for you. It is important for parents to focus on what their children can do rather than what they cannot do."
Martin Bester asked de Villiers if music is a great way of stimulating a child with ADHD, to which she replied: "Absolutely. Anything creative."
