VIDEO: Hacker reveals how to steal virtual card payment details

Ever wondered how criminals do it? Well, wonder no more…
As technology evolves and new technological advances are made daily, criminals also adapt their strategies to fit these technological advances.
The rise of cybercrimes has seen criminals use numerous methods to steal people's hard-earned money, from fake celebrity social media accounts selling items to full-on online crime syndicates.
Of course, one of the most common ways these cybercriminals target consumers is by directly accessing their bank cards to access their finances.

After frontend engineer Herman Stander recently fell victim to a phishing attack, losing his entire month’s salary to a cybercriminal, he set out to prove how it was done.
According to Cloudflare, phishing "refers to an attempt to steal sensitive information, typically in the form of usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, bank account information or other important data in order to utilise or sell the stolen information.
"By masquerading as a reputable source with an enticing request, an attacker lures in the victim in order to trick them, similarly to how a fisherman uses bait to catch a fish."
Stander set out to explain how a virtual card can easily be cloned by attackers and then used for payments without notice.
"I created this as a demo on how unsafe their [his bank] virtual cards really are. The website claims how safe it is," he wrote.
In his video, which was uploaded to YouTube, Stander used his wife's card for demonstration purposes.

He added that she was fully aware of this and that no money was stolen or used without consent.
This video is only for demonstrative purposes, and Jacaranda FM does not advise that it should be attempted.
