Du Plessis made history in 2024 when he became the reigning UFC Middleweight Champion and the first-ever South African to win a UFC championship.

The Pretoria local earned the UFC Middleweight title after a split-decision win against Sean Strickland at UFC 297.

The highly anticipated fight took place at the Scotiabank Arena in Ontario, Canada.

"Nou weet hulle wat ons weet," said Dricus "Stillknocks" du Plessis after making history with his 48-47 victory, with two judges ruling in the South African's favour.

Now, almost a year later, Du Plessis and Strickland are set to face off again at UFC 312.

The much-anticipated rematch is scheduled for February 8 (February 9 in South Africa) in Australia.

To close out 2024, Breakfast with Martin Bester spoke to Du Plessis ahead of the rematch to learn how he is preparing for another heart-pounding fight.

Martin Bester also surprised the UFC Champion with a cake featuring Strickland's face—though the cake didn't last long.

Du Plessis smashed the cake, perhaps hinting at the outcome of their second fight.
