A video of a couple being attacked and mugged in Plettenberg Bay has sent shockwaves across South Africa.

A Plettenberg Bay couple was rushed to hospital after being mugged and violently attacked while walking down a street.
The incident occurred on Challenge Drive in Plettenberg Bay and was captured on CCTV in the early hours of Tuesday, January 14.
The footage shows the couple walking down the street when a man runs up behind them and grabs the woman's handbag.

As the woman resists the mugging, the attacker becomes increasingly aggressive, striking them both with a black object and eventually forcing them to the ground.
The video has since circulated widely on social media, sparking outrage across the country.

According to the Knysna-Plett Herald, Otto Olivier, operations manager of the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association, has offered a R10,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the successful apprehension of the perpetrator.
This reward is available to anyone who provides details that help in capturing the atttacker.
Community members rushed to help the victims just minutes after the horrific attack. The victims were transported to Mediclinic in a private vehicle.
"Various responders flooded the area, and a search was conducted of the area and escape routes," said Olivier.

Olivier also confirmed that an investigation is underway. Plett’s Station Commander, Col May, has visited both the victims and the crime scene.
"The victims are traumatised and are receiving the care they need. We wish them a speedy recovery.
"Our peaceful and tranquil residential areas often make us let our guard down, even though the reality of people with criminal intent might be lurking around.
"Please stay vigilant, especially older residents. Arm yourself with pepper spray when taking a stroll or going shopping," added Olivier.
