Students are back at school as the South African school year has officially started.

With rising costs of stationery and other back-to-school essentials, many parents and students are finding creative ways to cut expenses.

Social media has been flooded with videos and photos of students using unconventional materials to cover their books, including repurposed Checkers Sixty60 bags.

One learner caught the attention of online users after using cereal boxes to cover their books.

The learner, who goes by @lustrylove on TikTok, gained attention for covering their books with cereal boxes. 

In the video, one book is wrapped in a Kellogg’s Cornflakes box, another in a Weet-Bix box, and a third in a carton of Pick n Pay long-life milk.
