Video footage of a motorist pushing a lioness out of his way with his car in the Kruger National Park has sent social media into a frenzy.

The video shows the driver bumping the lioness with his vehicle while attempting to push his way through the traffic of other cars who were looking at a pride of lions.

According to the Lowvelder, the incident occurred on the H1-4 between Satara and Olifants Camp on Friday, August 9.

The pride of lions urged many other motorists on the road to stop their cars and get the best view of the remarkable sighting, which is only normal when visiting the Kruger.

The moment was ruined for many of the onlookers when the seemingly impatient driver in a white Toyota Land Cruiser was attempting to push their way through the pile-up.

It was during their attempt to push through that the driver proceeded to push one of the lionesses in the pride with their vehicle.

The reason behind the driver's actions are not yet clear, but the Lowvelder reported that Kruger National Park (KNP) security officers are hot on the heels of the driver.

"We have consulted with security officers. They picked up the registration number through our advanced camera technology and will be following up. People should realise they are not invisible when in the park," said the KNP's spokesperson, Ike Phaahla.

Phaahla also advised the public to take note of the vehicle registration number, the location and time when these types of incidents occur, and then report it to the nearest gate or via the emergency number that appears on their entry permit.

Officers at the gate are then able to keep a lookout for unruly vehicles.
