WATCH: Passengers trapped after Paarl train derails

Passengers were left injured and trapped after a commuter train derailed in Paarl on Tuesday.
South African residents were left in shock after images of a commuter train in Paarl that had derailed made the rounds on social media.
According to The Citizen, at least 35 people were injured and others trapped after the train derailed early on Tuesday evening at Dal Josafat Station in Paarl, in the Western Cape.

The Drakenstein Disaster Management Team arrived at the scene to help those affected and perform rescue operations.

Drakenstein Farm Watch (DFW), a team of private fire responders in the Western Cape, reported that requests for urgent assistance were received at around 18:41.
The Citizen also reported that no fatalities have been reported, and those who were trapped have now been freed.
The cause of the incident has not yet been identified, but investigations are underway.
Metrorail Western Cape said in a statement that the injuries ranged from mild to severe and that the injured were taken by ambulance to various hospitals in the area for further medical care.

"Other passengers onboard were transported home. At this stage, Prasa and TFR [Transnet Freight Rail] are investigating the incident. Prasa has reported it to the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR), which is in line with existing protocols."
