WATCH: Shootout breaks out after robbery at Clearwater Mall

Seven suspects have reportedly been arrested after a robbery at Clearwater Mall on Tuesday.
Reports of a robbery at Clearwater Mall, along with video footage of the ordeal, sent South Africans into a frenzy on Tuesday.
According to The Citizen, the robbery took place at a jewellery store at the popular Roodepoort mall in the West of Johannesburg.
Two police officers were reportedly shot during a shootout that broke out after the robbery, and seven suspects have been arrested.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the jewellery store was robbed at gunpoint, after which the suspects were arrested.
"Three suspects were shot and injured," she said. "A speedy recovery to two Saps [South African Police Service] officers who were wounded during the shootout. Four firearms [were] seized."
Clearwater Mall also took to its Facebook page to confirm the incident and rule out any speculation.
"We can confirm that a robbery took place at one of our jewellery stores today (Tuesday, 22 October 2024)."

"We are working closely with the SAPS in investigating this matter, as the safety of our customers and staff is of utmost importance to us."
Video footage and images of the ordeal quickly spread on social media.

Many people tweeted about the incident, as it was happening, warning residents to stay away from the mall and the surrounding area.
