Weltevredenpark residents left without power for 11 days

Breakfast with Martin Bester spoke to Simoné Ross from Weltevredenpark about the horrific power situation in the area.
A resident from Weltevredenpark in Roodepoort told Breakfast with Martin Bester on Thursday that they have been left without power for 11 days.
Simoné Ross claims that the extensive power outage was due to damage to a mini substation in Rinyani Ave, Weltevredenpark.

According to Ross, "they [City Power] said there is no money to replace the mini-substation".
"We've received no feedback. They say they can't help us; there is no money to buy a mini-substation. There is no solution," said Ross.
The Weltevredenpark resident told Breakfast with Martin Bester that the entire neighbourhood is "gatvol" as they see no possible solutions to the problem. It has also put a significant financial strain on families.

"All the fruit is rotten, and I've lost income due to having to use the generator."
The extensive power outage has also made these families soft targets for crime, as alarm systems are no longer working. Electric gates and garage doors are also no longer working, which means doors have to be opened manually.
To make matters worse, Ross also claimed that their electricity bill has stayed the same.
