After many decades, your favourite Hillsiders will be saying goodbye on the 26th December 2023.
Many fans and regular viewers are still devastated that '7de Laan' will leave their screens soon.

According to Netwerk24, 1 018 704 viewers tuned in in October, and has held the title of the second most-watched show on SABC2.
But the question that has been on the minds of many viewers: What will be replacing this seemingly irreplaceable show?
According to experts in the industry, the slots between 18:00 and 20:00 are used for new shows and content.

These are also very high-demand advertising slots, which means advertisers pay large amounts for their content to be represented at this time.
Unfortunately for SABC2, they have not yet found a replacement for '7de Laan'. According to Netwerk24, it will instead be playing reruns of 'Vetkoekpaleis', a show that ended 27 years ago.
'Vetkoekpaleis' was a much-loved show that followed the antics of Frik, Worsie, Boeboe and friends, the employees of the Vetkoekpaleis.
This could pose an even bigger risk to the broadcaster as they will have no content competing with other channels such as kykNET and e.tv, leading to a loss of viewership.

The SABC told producers six months ago that they are looking for fresh soap opera ideas but there is no official timeline for any new programmes to replace '7de Laan'.
While their time in Hillside might end soon, fans can look back on the many years of '7de Laan' fondly.
