'7de Laan' ends 'due to insufficient funds'

After 23 years on air, SABC 2 and Danie Odendaal Productions announced that the long-running popular soapie, '7de Laan', will not be recommissioned for another season when season 24 comes to an end in December 2023.
Few things have impacted South African culture as much as the television show '7de Laan' has.

Whether or not you are open about your love of the soapie, most people have watched at least one episode, can name one character or know someone who can.
Early this year, it was announced that the beloved show would be coming to an end and South Africans were devastated by the news.

More recently, actor and director Denver Vraagom, who was also known for his role as Sheldon in '7de Laan', shared a statement on Facebook in which the reason for the end of the soapie was confirmed:
The statement seems to have been released to the '7de Laan' cast and crew members, and drawn up by the production house that gave birth to '7de Laan', Danie Odendal Productions.
