Award-winning barista Phuti Mmotla ground down the competition
South Africa's very own Phuti Mmotla managed to take down all other competitors to become the best Starbucks barista in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA)!
Originally hailing from Pretoria, Mmotla started working at Starbucks five years ago when he moved to Cape Town. This is where he discovered his passion for coffee.

His hard work and commitment over the years prompted him to enter the Starbucks EMEA Barista Championship, which tests top baristas from every store across Europe, Middle East, and Africa to determine who has the most skill.
After some tough competition, Mmotla found himself in the finals of the competition, which was held at the iconic Starbucks Roastery in Milan.

The 2022 Starbucks EMEA Barista Championship Final was the largest one yet, connecting over 40,000 participants from 42 countries across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
