Many people will agree that a little white lie here and there can be quite harmless.

But should you lie to your loved ones if you are trying to protect them?

No matter how pure your intentions, as with any lie, there can be serious consequences when the truth is revealed.

In a relationship, communication is key.

You would hope that you and your partner have a mutual understanding that telling the truth, even if it hurts, is better than lying to one another.

A Reddit user landed in some serious hot water when a lie he told his girlfriend came crashing down.

In a lengthy post, the user, @big_dawgg1, shared that his girlfriend had found a new interest in songwriting and has been writing her own music.

Like most supportive partners, he kept on encouraging her and her new hobby.

Now this is where it gets messy.

Feeling confident in her new "talents", she wanted to create a social media page on TikTok to upload videos of her singing and songwriting.

Again, the supportive boyfriend told her to go ahead and told her how talented she was.

Unfortunately, things did not go as planned, for either of them.

The popular Reddit thread this was posted on is known as AITA (Am I The Asshole) and usually posters want to find out whether or not they were in the wrong after explaining their situation.

The poster in this case thought that he did not do anything wrong, but the comment section did not agree with him.

It seems like everyone is in agreement that telling the truth in a loving and caring way is better than lying.
