Customer confuses waiter by bringing own ingredients

Is she an extremely picky eater or just being high maintenance?
The general human understanding of going to a restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is that you have to choose a meal from the menu of selected items they provide.

Although most places will let you edit a meal to some extent, ie. you don't want mushrooms on your pizza or you would like it with something extra, you wouldn't go to an exclusively Mexican restaurant asking for a boerewors roll.
Many restaurants also try their best to cater to people with serious dietary requirements like allergies and many have added vegan and vegetarian options to cater to those types of lifestyle choices.

However how many people do you know who would bring their own ingredients to a restaurant? We can all agree that it seems kind of pointless going to a place where they specialise in making meals with your own meal when you could have just made it at home.
As it turns out, not all people see it this way.
On the popular Reddit thread r/Serverlife the page has the following description: "Server, waiter, waitress? Welcome home, take off your apron, have a glass, and let's chat about work, cause c'mon, as much as you act like you don't wanna talk about it, you do. I know!"

It's a place for staff to share good news, horror stories or ask questions about the industry.
As you can imagine there are some quite interesting interactions that these workers have shared, but one that caught everyone's attention was the following story.
The server explained that they work in a restaurant chain and were recently serving two women. Within the first interaction between the two parties, the server was taken aback when they offered the women something to drink and was told "water is the only thing I drink. Anything else is basically poison”.

Clearly, this is the first time the staff member had encountered such a thing and didn't really know how to handle the situation, but then again, who of us would know what to do?
They asked for advice in their post and the general response was that this kind of behaviour is inappropriate and should not be tolerated:

People will really try their best to get their way, but it seems like bringing your own meal to a restaurant can be a real health issue so let this be a warning.
