Dermatologists reveal how often you should be showering
Updated | By Jean-Mari Schmidt
Do you think you should be showering or taking a bath every day? Well, think again...
When it comes to hygiene, society has some standards that most of us will fully agree with.
Flushing the toilet? Sure.
Brushing your teeth? Definitely.
Showering or taking a bath once a day? Of course!

However, your preference and personal hygiene should not really be influenced by what others dictate, so at the end of the day you can also just do what you want.
Most of us will agree though that showering or bathing twice a day might be excessive, once is necessary.
Or that's what we've been led to believe. As it turns out, we might have been wrong all along.

Recently, a segment on the USA talk show 'Today' called, 'How Often Should You?', sent people spiralling when they found out how often dermatologists are recommending you should shower.
In the segment, the hosts were asked "How often should you shower?" and given four multiple-choice answers:
- Every day
- Two to three times a week
- Five times a week
- Once a week
The hosts and viewers were shocked by the answer:
Once again, personal hygiene depends on the person. If you exercise daily, work in manual labour, and tend to get more down and dirty, it only makes sense that you would need to shower more often.

While it has been noted by experts that too much cleaning can lead to skin issues, many dermatologists have commented on the video on social media saying that they disagree with the answer.
At the end of the day, you just have to determine what works for you.
And if someone tells you that you're on the smelly side of things, it might be time to re-evaluate.
