Unfortunately, consumers have had to say goodbye to many of their well-loved food products in recent years.

In 2020, along with the pandemic and lockdown, South Africans had to bid farewell to the much-loved Nestlé Chocolate Log and a few other chocolate favourites.

After 60 years on the market, the popular Coca-Cola drink Tab was discontinued, and for a short time, Pecks Anchovette and Redro Fish Paste were also no longer available.

The biggest shock came in 2023 when Nestlé announced it would no longer produce Nesquik.

Just when you think we've seen enough of our favourites leave the shelves, Lipton goes and shares an update that shakes social media.

At the end of March, Lipton posted a picture of arguably their most popular ice tea flavour, Peach, with angel wings, on Instagram.

The picture read: "You may have heard that our iconic Peach Lipton Ice Tea flavour is being discontinued. We know – it hurts (sorry if we’ve ruined your go-to afternoon chill bev). But don’t worry, the rest of your faves are still here to keep you refreshed. And who knows? Maybe one day, Peach will make a legendary comeback. We appreciate your understanding during this period of adjustment and apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

Taken completely by surprise, social media users and fans of the beverage were not having it, with one person saying, "This is like Coca Cola discontinuing Coke."

Here are just a few of the most popular responses:

  • tabi_png: "Please rethink this decision im going to throw up."

  • zeeeny_: "Nooo man! Rather take away the berry one 😭😭😭 and don’t you dare think about touching the lemon one 😭😭😭."

  • hannahlowther: "I immediately went to check if it was 1st April??!!!! What is happening."

Luckily, the brand quickly shared another post to clear things up, explaining that they might have mixed up their dates and launched their April Fool's prank a little early.

While Peach lovers could breathe a sigh of relief, one user did write that they might have responded to the initial joke post a little too dramatically.

"If anyone wants a bottle of Lipton Peach I may or may not have bought 345 cases of 12 yesterday. 🤝"
