No matter how much you dislike them, some workplace rules are non-negotiable.

That said, every office seems to have at least one rule that feels completely absurd.

But here’s the thing – those strange rules usually exist for a reason. Chances are, someone once did exactly what the rule now forbids… and ruined it for everyone.

Recently, a popular American fast-food chain faced backlash after one of its policies was made public.

A Wendy's employee, known as "1jvj3" on Reddit, posted a picture on a subreddit that sparked intense criticism from workers and customers alike.

The employee came across a sign that had been put up in the store during one of their shifts.

According to the post, the rule is new and was implemented by a general manager.

The employee adds that this rule is only enforced when that general manager is working – if she’s not, the other shift managers don’t ask for their phones.

Wendy's official policy prohibits employees from using their phones during work hours, as many workplaces do.

However, the new policy has been deemed excessive and invasive.

The post has raised serious concerns about an employee's privacy and the fact that Wendy's locations are franchised.

This means that individual owners can implement their own internal rules, creating inconsistency and uncertainty among employees across the chain.

Many comments were made against this rule, but some seem to have listed valid reasons for implementing this policy.

Some sighted time management and abuse of bathroom breaks as a reason behind the rule.
