As SA is entering the warmer months, fruit is a staple in many homes.
The UK's leading global retailer, Tesco, recently shared a few helpful tips for storing bananas and ensuring their freshness.
1. The right way to store them
Bananas emit gasses that can cause food close to them to ripen and spoil more quickly. Keep them at room temperature. If they are stored in the fridge, their peel will turn black, and they will transfer their smells to other fridge foods.
2. The different phases
Bananas change colour and soften as they ripen. Unripe bananas are not very appealing but they can be used for cooking.
3. Freeze 'em!
If you are afraid that you won't be using all your bananas soon, you can freeze them whole or cut them into slices before storing in the freezer.
They can be used for one-ingredient ice-cream, smoothies or milkshakes.

4. Dried or dehydrated
They also make great snacks and can easily make some banana chips.
5. Bake 'em
The classic go-to will never steer you wrong, but bananas don't just have to be used for bread. You can use them for cakes, muffins or cookies.
