Earlier this year, tech giant Apple announced its plans to bring the new iOS 16 and watchOS 9 software updates to its iPhones and smartwatches.

Apple users can expect changes to lock screens, revamped notifications, new watch faces, new running statistics and more.

The new updates are now available to all Apple users with 2017's iPhone 8 or newer. All Apple Watches from the 2018’s Series 4 or newer can also install watchOS 9.

According to The Guardian, the first big change to come with the update is an upgrade to the iPhone's lock screen. The new lock screen will allow for more personalisation and changes in how notifications are displayed.

Other updates users can expect are:

  • The ability to edit iMessages and unending emails from Mail
  • Automatically cutting specific objects from images
  • Faster security updates
  • Face or fingerprint authentication can be used to sign into websites, apps and other services.
  • New watch faces on smartwatches
  • Better running metrics
  • Medication reminders and improved sleep tracking

For many, the best part of the new update would be that the hidden images folder now requires face recognition to open.
