The event's full program included entertainment, a 21-gun salute, and a flyover by the South African Air Force.

What managed to catch most people's attention was some of the guests arriving with what seemed to be brown paper bags.

As the guests were shuttled to the Union Buildings, security was obviously very tight on this high-profile day.

  • An apple
  • Banana
  • Two muffins
  • A sandwich
  • Coffee
  • Water
  • A drink of your choosing
  • Two English rolls
