Leander Opperman, a mountain climber from Pretoria, has reached an incredible new high... literally!
Leander Opperman might seem like your average South African but there aren't a lot of South Africans who can say that they have climbed one of the highest mountains in the world!

Just last year Leander was scaling the peaks of Aconcagua in Argentina along with 14 other people.
According to National Geographic, "Cerro Aconcagua, often referred to as simply Aconcagua, is a mountain in Argentina near its border with Chile. Aconcagua is the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere. It is more than 6,706 meters high, though the exact height of its highest peak has been the subject of some debate."

In the end, he was only one of four who made it to the peak of the highest mountain in the Americas and when we heard about his story and how he persevered through some incredibly challenging times.
