Samkelo Cele is ready to fly the South African flag high in the USA!
From the Grammy Award-winning Tyla to the consecutive rugby world champions and everyone in between, South Africans have truly put the country on the map internationally.

We all know how amazing SA is and all the talent it has had to offer for decades, but it has not always had the opportunity to take its stars worldwide.
Now, we are seeing more international representation than ever before and we can not get enough!
There are a few sports that are considered an integral part of SA culture.

Just look at all the legends from rugby, soccer, swimming, athletics, and many others. Basketball is a sport that is not especially considered South African.
Basketball originated in the USA and while it has grown in popularity all over the world, the National Basketball Association in America is still the most well-known league.
A few names you might recognise from this league of sports stars are Shaquille O’Neal, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James.
Now, one of our very own is taking a major step on his journey to playing with the big boys.

Samkelo Cele is one of the first team members for the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and is known to fans as a fierce Cape Town Tigers player.
This 27-year-old has worked hard and now he has been given the opportunity of a lifetime, something that kids dream about.
Cele will be spending the next few months with the New York Knicks in Las Vegas as part of the NBA Summer League.
Rob Forbes and Rozanne McKenzie wanted to personally congratulate Samkelo on this incredible achievement and find out how he got himself to this position.
