So, it was no surprise when the bestselling books were adapted for the big screen.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan brought the fiery relationship of Anastasia Steele and the now-iconic Christian Grey to life on screen.

While the books were already known for their spicy content, the film adaptation sparked both excitement and controversy, with audiences eagerly anticipating which scenes would make it to the big screen.

A decade since the first film's release, the 'Fifty Shades' trilogy remains a cultural phenomenon – one that continues to be talked about and referenced in pop culture today.

And while the story takes place in Seattle, USA, one real-life location became instantly recognisable – the Escala.

This "sleek residential tower in downtown Seattle" served as the inspiration for Grey’s lavish penthouse.

Now, the real-life penthouse has been put on the market, offering fans a glimpse inside – though it does have some differences from its fictional counterpart.

Listed at $11.5 million (an estimated R211 million), it’s a home fit for a billionaire.

In the fictional series, Grey's penthouse boasts a private elevator, a rooftop terrace, a piano, and, of course, the infamous soundproof Red Room of Pain.

While the real-life penthouse doesn’t include those features, it still offers plenty of luxury.

It has three bedrooms, four bathrooms, four parking spaces, hardwood floors, a balcony and a hidden butler's pantry.

There are beautiful views of the city, the bay and the mountains.

While the film’s interior scenes were shot on a set, one part of the Escala building did make it into the movies – the exterior was used for establishing shots.
