The picture has turned heads as it marks a first for First Lady portraits.
January 20, 2025, marked a historic moment as Donald Trump was sworn in for his second term as the 45th President of the United States.

According to AFP after taking the oath, Donald Trump declared the start of a "golden age" in the United States.
In his inaugural speech, he lashed out at what he described as a "broken" society he would rescue.
Since 1965, the American President and the First Lady have had their official portraits taken and hung in the White House.

The White House Historical Association has been proud to fund this long-standing tradition honouring every president and first lady.
In recent years, the President and his wife have been able to choose their respective artists to capture their likeness, whether it be through photography or painting.

The aim is to showcase their characteristics and personality, capturing American history through the many decades.
Since the inauguration, US First Lady Melania Trump has also been causing a stir. Her outfit choice made headlines that day, and now her official portrait has also got people talking.
The White House has released the First Lady's portrait, which Regine Mahaux, a Belgian photographer, shot.

The picture was taken in the Yellow Oval Room at the White House with the Washington Monument in the background.
What makes this portrait especially unique, is that it is the first portrait to be taken in black and white.
In the image, the new First Lady is wearing a dark business suit and resting her hands on a table.

Belgian photographer Régine Mahaux also took Melanie's portrait during her first stint in the White House in 2017.
