Caity was reportedly going to a party and was planning on booking a stay for one night only, instead of driving back home late at night.
While trying to find accommodation, Caity happened upon a listing that caught her attention for all the wrong reasons.
The listing was called 'Camping Swag Under The Stars' and cost $1,156 (R14,000) for two people. This shocked Caity, as it is extremely expensive for a night of camping, even in Australia!
The description of the listing, before it was removed, read: "Camp true and cosy under the stars in this waterproof camping bedroll swag."
At first, I thought it was some kind of insane glamping experience for that price. But no, it was basically a swag and the photos of the property looked unkempt and the backyard looked like it hadn’t been mowed in months. I asked her why she thinks charging that amount is justifiable.- Caity
Caity had then reached out to the host to find out more, and to be honest, the reply seemed lacking:
The company on which the listing was posted has since taken matters into their own hands and dealt with the host and the listing.
They also released the following statement:
The listing has been removed, and we thank our community for bringing this issue to our attention. In addition to behaving in accordance with our Community Standards, Airbnb Hosts must ensure they meet our strict Host Reliability Standards, which include commitments around listing accuracy, cleanliness, and communication, among others. Our team is focused on ensuring each stay is a positive experience for guests, Hosts and the wider community.- Susan Wheeldon (Airbnb’s Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand)
