Lost R170,000 wedding ring found in lake
Updated | By Jean-Mari Schmidt

Wedding rings almost famously tend to disappear down drains, get lost in large bodies of water or just vanish when you least expect it.

Many married people will tell you that very few of them would like to have to tell their spouse that one of the most sentimental pieces of jewellery is lost forever.
Most of the time it's also a simple matter of replacing rather that rescuing the ring.

Jennie, a woman who had recently lost her wedding ring at Bass Lake in California, was not giving up so easily.
She set out to find anyone who was willing to dive down to the depths of the lake and search for her ring.
That's when she came across Michael Pelley, also known as Merman Mike, a scuba diver who was ready to help, and along with his finacé, they decided to tackle this task.

Little did they know how hard it was really going to be.
As it turns out, the lake is manmade and 13.7m deep, which means his visibility at the bottom was close to zero and he had to be careful whenever he was about to resurface.
Luckily, after some time and by changing his approach, he managed to retrieve the ring and reunite it with its owner.
You can watch his search and the incredible moment here:
While Merman Mike is happy to help in these situations, he does note that he doesn't "just go down for the treasure" but the trash as well as. He always tries to pick up garbage left behind in the areas he dives.
