This may sound like an episode of Man vs Wild, but this is 100% real.
Tough times never last, only tough people last... and Jhonattan Acosta is proof of that.

While on a hunting trip in the northern Bolivian jungle, Jhonattan, unfortunately, got separated from his four friends.
It is still unclear as to how exactly this might have happened but for the next 31 days, Jhonattan would have to fight for his life.

He did not have any useful equipment with him, no flashlight or knife. Instead, all he had to help him fend off the dangers of the jungle was a shotgun with one cartridge.
How did he manage to survive and not give up hope?

According to BBC, he used his boots to collect rainwater for drinking and ate whatever he could find like wild fruits called gargateas (similar to papayas).
It's incredible, I can't believe people kept up the search for so long. I ate worms, I ate insects, you wouldn't believe all I had to do to survive all this time. I thank God profusely, because he has given me a new life.- Jhonattan Acosta

On the fourth day, Mr Acosta dislocated his ankle and had to avoid running into any wild animals such as jaguars and peccaries, a type of pig-like mammal. He used his final shotgun cartridge to scare away a squadron of peccaries.
He was finally rescued when he saw a rescue party. With his dislocated ankle, he limped his way to them and was luckily brought to safety.

At the time of his rescue, he had lost 17kgs and was dehydrated, so his family said they would ask questions later to try and piece together the complete story, as he was psychologically traumatised after the ordeal.
He only had one cartridge in his shotgun and couldn't walk, and he thought no one would be looking for him anymore. A man came running to tell us they'd found my brother. It's a miracle. He is going to play music to praise God. He promised God that, and I think he will keep his promise.- Horacio Acosta (survivor's younger brother)

Unsurprisingly, Mr Acosta has decided to give up hunting.
Hopefully he will fully heal and have many more safe and enjoyable days ahead of him.
