Mistakes on flights that can lead to lifetime bans
Updated | By The Drive with Rob and Roz
Did you know there are seemingly innocent actions on flights that could lead to passengers receiving lifetime bans?
There are many rules when flying on an airplane.
Some of the more well-known ones include putting electronics into airplane mode, not smoking or vaping and avoiding extreme intoxication.

However, according to flight attendants, there are also less obvious mistakes passengers can make that could seriously jeopardise their own safety and that of others.
Skye Taylor, 49, is a former flight attendant who has worked for airlines such as Virgin Atlantic and has spent 17 years in the industry. Although she has left the profession, she recently shared her concerns about the problematic behaviour of some influencers on flights.

In an interview with the Mail Online, she said that she's seen videos of influencers and social media content creators engaging in risky actions that put them in danger.
I was watching one TikTok the other day, and I was absolutely horrified. An influencer stepped over the markings [on the runway], the safety area, and everyone was like “oh wow, that's incredible”. But she was right near the engine, it was ridiculous. I’ve seen quite a lot of other things that make me think, “Oh my God!”- Skye Taylor (Former flight attendant)
While this might seem like an obvious risk to many, another seemingly innocent act can pose a massive security risk to everyone on the flight.

Taylor recalls another video where an influencer wrote a message on a plane's bathroom mirror.
How could a message on a mirror be so dangerous?
In February 2024, a United Airlines flight was forced to land because a bomb threat was discovered written on the bathroom mirror.

Taylor explains that cabin crew must report messages like etto the police, regardless of their content, as officials will take a different approach to analysing this information.
The former flight attendant warns that something as simple as this could get you a lifetime ban from the airline.
Because it has been known that messages have been left for, you know [dangerous people] and I think a lot of the time people, I don't want to say it because I'm old, but it's like a younger generation thing. I think sense goes out the window. It's safety at the end of the day, something could happen to you or you could put that aircraft in danger, and I've seen it a lot.- Skye Taylor (Former flight attendant)
Before you take your runway selfie or write a funny message consider the consequences.
