Feeling like you have no idea what's going on with one of SA's biggest mysteries in recent years? We've got you covered.
Let's begin at the beginning:
In 2011, Thabo Bester was tried and convicted for the rape of two women who he had targeted through Facebook and so became known as the Facebook rapist.

After that, he was also tried and convicted for the murder of his then-girlfriend, Nomfundo Tyhulu, in 2012.
While in prison, it was believed that he had died in May 2022 when his cell went up in flames leaving only a burnt body as evidence that Bester had been there.

This is when the case was about to take a dramatic and frightening turn.
As it turns out, the body that was found in the wreckage of the fire did not belong to Bester.
