Netflix CEO weighs in on Meghan Markle backlash

Viewers have questioned the authenticity and relatableness of her new series, 'With Love, Meghan'.

The Duchess – who now calls herself Meghan Sussex – wears many hats, both figuratively and literally.

When she's not busy with humanitarian work, she's producing shows and podcasts, or travelling the world, often with Prince Harry by her side.
Her latest venture, 'With Love, Meghan', is a Netflix original lifestyle series where Markle shares tips and advice on gardening, cooking, and hosting.

While it's not your typical reality show, it offers fans a rare, intimate look into the life of their favourite royal.
However, after its first episode aired, viewers had a lot to say about the show, and the majority reacted poorly to it.
Some even spoke about how unimpressed they were about a "recipe" she shared.

With the number of mixed reviews piling up, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos has shared his thoughts on the reactions.
Sarandos has been head of the world's leading streaming service since 2020 and in an interview with Variety, spoke about the company's future.
This includes the stake Netflix has in the relaunch of the Duchess of Sussex’s company, As Ever.
We’re a passive partner in Meghan’s company, and it’s a big discovery model for us right now. I think Meghan is underestimated in terms of her influence on culture. He also noted that at the time, the shoes she wore sold out globally – even the Hermès blanket draped over a chair behind her quickly went out of stock.

Netflix has a $100-million (about R1.85-billlion) partnership with the Royal couple, which they started five years ago. Netflix has produced many of their projects, including 'Harry & Meghan' (the docuseries), 'Polo', and 'Heart of Invictus'.
'With Love, Meghan' is the latest and has just been renewed for a second season.
