The Automobile Association (AA) have said that South Africa’s annual road fatality statistics indicate that the road safety situation in the country is a national crisis.

We are not surprised when Easter and end-of-year fatality numbers are high, despite increased traffic law intervention during these periods. Our view is that driver behaviour will never change over a three- or four-week period when, for the rest of the year, drivers are allowed to drive as they wish without any consequences.

In an attempt to do its part, Volkswagen has announced its Night School, a programme that will provide the first open-source night driving safety curriculum to the public.
From 1 November, anyone will be able to access the information provided which focuses on driving at night, tips for driving, and a test at the end of each section.

Volkswagen in cooperation with its driving school launched this initiative and with the help of their experienced drivers, there will even be a practical night driving course that you will be able to sign up for.
The first practical classes will be taught at Zwartkops raceway, but they are looking to expand and take their practical night driving classes across the country.
