When cellphones became readily accessible, breaking up with someone over text became a new trend.

And instantly was frowned upon.

Most people will agree that choosing to break up with someone over a text message, email, or phone call is not appropriate.

Not all relationships can end amicably, and sometimes, extreme measures need to be taken to make sure that those involved in the relationship get the message.

Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the daughter of the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai.

She married Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, a son of the UAE royal family, in a lavish ceremony in May 2023.

The couple also have a three-month-old baby daughter.

It seems the feelings in the marriage have turned sour.

Mahra has not only addressed her husband in her latest Instagram post but also publicly challenged the societal norms of her country.

Many people applauded her for speaking so openly about her situation, but some people thought it was in bad taste.

Others were wondering why she had to write "I divorce you" three times, as it seemed like overkill.

According to The Washington Post, there is a controversial practice of triple talaq where under Sunni Islamic Law, it allows a Muslim man to divorce his wife by saying talaq (Arabic for divorce) three times.

The man is not required to offer a reason or obtain his wife's agreement.

Women also typically receive a dowry (Arabic: mahr) from their husband or husband's family upon marriage according to Sharia law. When a woman returns the mahr, she is legally able to obtain a separation (Arabic: khula).

Since Mahra posted her divorce announcement, it seems that the couple have deleted all pictures of each other on their own social media accounts.
