The MAXHOSA MLDR63 – Ladies Sleeveless Pleated Dress first grabbed attention after it was shared on X by @Nadatywabi.

She wrote: "Hayi sana @LadumaNgxokolo @MaXhosaAfrica niyalwa" (Laduma Ngxokolo, MaXhosaAfrica you are fighting), while also tagging the brand in the caption.

Although many users shared in her outrage others pointed out that this was "normal" for the brand.

Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela took to X to respond to the initial post writing, "You are not the target market for everything."

Others agreed:

"I have already admitted that it’s poverty that caused all this shock when I saw the price on the website. I love the dress though."

"Billionaires and multi-millionaires are the target market here, unless you are reckless with your spending and living beyond your means."

MAXHOSA AFRICA is a South African luxury designer knitwear brand that was founded in 2010 by Laduma Ngxokolo.

The brand was inspired by traditional Xhosa aesthetics and through incorporating traditional Xhosa beadwork patterns, symbolism and colours MAXHOSA AFRICA was born.

Today, the luxury African brand is seen as a premium brand, with stores across South Africa and a store in New York.

MAXHOSA has also gained international status with celebrities like Beyoncé, Alicia Keys and former US First Lady Michelle Obama wearing select pieces from the collection.
