Updated | By The Drive with Rob and Roz
South Africa keeps winning and we love to see it!
From Rugby World Cup wins and Paralympic gold medals to Grammy Awards, South Africans have been representing the country on the world stage in the best ways.
Many of us had probably not even heard of the WorldSkills Competition.

After the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics, the WorldSkills Competition said that WorldSkills Lyon 2024 was "France’s third largest event this summer".
WorldSkills describes itself as having "built a movement that is changing the lives of young people through skills. Our 89 Member organizations reach two-thirds of the world’s population and create measurable impact at every level."
You can learn a bit more about them here:
As part of their mission, they host a competition where people from all over the world can show off their incredible skills in various fields.
The competition is the Olympics of skills.

Competitors can win Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in their fields, as well as many other awards.
This year's awards took place in Lyon, France, from the 10th to the 15th of September.
Some of the skills and events included at this competition include a Manufacturing Team Challenge, Information Network Cabling and IT Software Solutions for Business.
While many of us have never heard of this event, South Africa was proudly represented by Philippus Saayman who was awarded the Best in Nation medal for the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning skill category.
The refrigeration and air conditioning engineer is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of both systems. Their work involves domestic and commercial settings, as well as including the construction and transportation sectors, for example in ships and trucks. Finding solutions to issues involving climate and the environment are the biggest issues for engineers in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry.- WorldSkills
Congratulations to Saayman and hopefully this motivates many more South Africans to compete!
