South Africa's 2023 World Happiness report ranking has been revealed

It could be a lot better, but it could also be a lot worse.
If there's one thing we as South Africans have learned, it's how to see the humour and the bright side in every situation.
Comedy, however, can only do so much.

With loadshedding, potholes, and a seemingly chaotic government still a part of our daily lives, it can be difficult to find the positives in everyday life.
How do we rank amongst the other nations of the world? Not great.

The World Happiness Report for 2023 has officially been released and the top-ranking countries might not come as a surprise at all.
The organisation's website does state that "Country rankings this year are based on life evaluations in 2020, 2021, and 2022, so all of the observations are drawn from years of high infection and deaths from COVID-19."
They also further explain how the "happiness" measurements are determined and that it uses three main well-being indicators.

This includes:
- Life evaluations - this is determined through the Gallup World poll and is the main source of data for the report
- Positive emotions - the average answers given about laughter, enjoyment and interest
- Negative emotions - the average answers given about worry, sadness and anger
According to these findings, Finland has claimed the number-one spot this year with a score of 7.804, while the lowest-ranking country is Afghanistan at 137 with a score of 1.859.

Where does South Africa rank? At a solid 85, so pretty average.
