Oh, hello there... Study reveals the most effective flirting techniques
Updated | By The Drive with Rob and Roz
If you are looking to up your game in the world of flirting, then you've come to the right place.
When it comes to flirting, it seems like there are two types of people.
Those who can flirt well and those who have no idea how or what they're doing.

Human beings tend to think that flirting is completely intentional, but that is not always the case.
It is also something you can improve on.
What is flirting?
Flirting involves different signals that people send to each other. It’s done to attract potential partners. Men and women both flirt to get the attention of a desired partner, and perhaps to achieve a sexual or romantic result from it.- Leif Edward Ottesen Kennair (professor at NTNU’s Department of Psychology)

To help identify flirting behaviour and what works effectively, researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) teamed up with Bucknell University and the State University of New York to conduct a study.
The team had a group of 1,000 participants and looked into 40 flirting techniques to determine which worked and which fell flat.

It also used the 'sexual strategies theory' as the premise for the research, which is a theory that suggests people have evolved to a point where they are strategic in picking a romantic partner.
What did the study find?
There is one thing that stood out above the rest and that was the most effective: humour.
People think that humour, or being able to make another person laugh, is most effective for men who are looking for a long-term relationship. It’s least effective for women who are looking for a one-night stand. But laughing or giggling at the other person’s jokes is an effective flirtation tactic for both sexes.- Leif Edward Ottesen Kennair (professor at NTNU’s Department of Psychology)
Another important note about having good humour is that it's not just about making the other person laugh but also showing them that you think they are funny.
As it turns out, we all just want to enjoy ourselves and have a laugh with someone we like a lot.
Now that you know what to do, you can go and test it out for yourself.
But be careful who you flirt with and make sure you don't make anyone uncomfortable.
