If there is one universal song that everyone knows, it's the alphabet song.

Children grow up with this song being a fundamental part of their school years and you will even find adults singing along when they need a little assistance.

Generations have grown up singing this song, but children are now being taught a new version!

A viral video on TikTok that was posted by a teacher has shocked viewers who grew up singing the original ABCs.

Little did we know that the song had undergone a massive change.

Teacher Rachel Sorsel, also known as The Mindful Teacher online, recently posted a video that now has over six-million views because she shared some interesting information about the alphabet song.

Sorsel replied to a different post and confirmed that the song had to be changed because children had thought that LMNOP was one letter.

Watch the video of her explanation here:

@teacherrachelsorsel It's true: they changed the alphabet song. But it's for a good reason! #scienceofreading #earlyliteracy #teachyourkidtoread #structuredliteracy #developmentallyappropriate #sor #phonics #alphabetsong #theychangedthealphabet #teachertip #preschool #kindergarten #firstgrade ♬ original sound - Mindful Teacher - SoR & SEL

It seems to make a lot of sense but a lot of people are sad to see the old song go saying, "LMNOP got me through a lot. We will never forget you. RIP 💔😔".

Others suggested ways of improving the old song without editing it too much, such as better enunciation of the letters, to which teacher Sorsel responded: "Even with enunciation, kiddos this young are still developing phonemic awareness! This simple change is a big help to many. Often kids can’t get diagnosed with dyslexia or a phonemic disorder until the end of 1st grade or later. We want ALL kids to have access to at least the alphabet early on :)".

Luckily, you are still more than welcome to sing the alphabet song however you choose.
