While he might be used to being in the public eye, the actor has managed to keep a low profile and chooses to keep his private life private.

Many people might not even know he has a son.

Farrell shares a 20-year-old son, James, with his ex Kim Bordenave.

James changed his life in more ways than one, like most children do.

However, Farrell's son was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome.

Angelman syndrome "is a condition caused by a change in a gene, called a genetic change. Angelman syndrome causes delayed development, problems with speech and balance, mental disability, and, sometimes, seizures."

Those born with this syndrome will suffer developmental delays and Farrell has made sure that James could always have the care he needs and deserves.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with People, Colin shared an emotional moment and spoke about James' first steps:

LISTEN: "People don't understand that I do not want children!"

For the first time ever, the actor has opened up his home and spoken about his son and his condition.

That's because James is also the driving force behind Farrell's latest endeavour.

James is turning 21 in September and this means that he will have outgrown the systems put in place for special needs children and families.
