The showrunners decided to start playing the music as Oliver was thanking a very special lady.
On 15 September, industry greats attended the second Emmys gala this year after the writers' and actors' strikes in Hollywood last year bumped the 2023 ceremony to January 2024.

While you might think this is some kind of joke coming from a comedian, he became very emotional during this speech.
Unfortunately, the Emmy organisers started playing the soundtrack indicating that John needed to make his way off stage.
He was not going to give up and swore as he continued his speech, sharing that his dog had passed away.

In the video, you can hear the music being stopped immediately after John mentions the passing of his best furry friend.
The crowd clapped along as he finished his speech in spectacular fashion, thanking all dogs.

Even crazier, is that dogs love us more than we love them. I totally understand John Oliver's love for his dog.
