Dash cam footage of the incident has been circulating on social media.
Crime is still a major concern in South Africa, and e-hailing drivers are fearing for their lives.
A recent incident that involved a driver has gone viral after a video was shared on X.

'Crime Watch' presenter and journalist Yusuf Abramjee shared the footage, which seems to have been recorded on a dash camera, with the caption: "e-hailing driver robbed in Cape Town."
In the video, you can see a man driving the car, and he has passengers in the front and back seats.
There appear to be five people in the car including the driver.

All of a sudden the passenger pulls the handbrake, bringing the car to a stop before all the people in the car assault the driver and take his phone.
Before they leave, they spray him with pepper spray and are sure to check the car to see if there is anything else they can take.

There was once a driver we requested and upon arrival, he turned away right on the spot and refused to take us once he saw that it was 4 of us (3 guys & 1 girl). We are not criminals though and I still commend that guy to this day for his awareness💯 🙌

Cash payments for ehailing should be stopped for safety reasons. Requesters must use their bank card so at least one person can be identifiable.

This is so heartbreaking to watch.💔 Most of these drivers are forced into e-hailing due to unemployment. In most cases these are not even their vehicles. These thugs could have done worse to him. Glad he is alive. I hope they are arrested soon.

There have been no further updates on the driver's health, and this is a developing story.
