Most people have had some experience with anaesthesia whether you have gone to the dentist for some dental work or had to have surgery in a hospital.

Anesthesia "uses drugs called anesthetics to keep you from feeling pain during medical procedures. Local and regional anesthesia numbs a specific area of your body. General anesthesia makes you temporarily unconscious (fall asleep) so you can have more invasive surgeries."

Unlike centuries ago, humans are no longer expected to tolerate the pain of being cut or probed by medical professionals.

However, if you are not a medical professional or student yourself, you might not understand exactly what happens to your body when you go under.

Most of us would assume it was a deep sleep because that's what the experience feels like.

One moment, you're awake and counting backwards, and the next, you wake up, in your hospital bed feeling a little out of sorts.

Dr Anthony Kaveh has become one of the many doctors on social media who are using these platforms to educate people on all things medical.

The Harvard and Stanford alum clearly states that his role is not to give medical advice, but he does post videos to answer people's questions on various topics.

From sharing what happens behind the scenes during surgery to sharing information on labour and baby delivery.

There is one series of videos that have made him a viral sensation.

Dr Kaveh has answered many questions about anaesthesia.
