The 97th Academy Awards gala, hosted by Conan O'Brien on March 2, delivered everything expected from the industry’s grandest stage – glitz, drama, unexpected wins, heartfelt speeches, and plenty of memorable moments.
But one moment stole the spotlight.

Adrien Brody, nominated for 'The Brutalist' (2024), took home the Oscar for 'Best Actor'. But before the ceremony even began, he found himself in the middle of an unexpected red carpet interruption – thanks t0 fellow Oscar-winner Halle Berry.
Berry suddenly grabbed Brody for a surprise smooch – right in front of his wife, Georgina.
As she made her move, she playfully apologised, saying, "I'm sorry, Georgina, but I've gotta do it."

Gasps and cheers erupted from onlookers as Brody embraced Berry, both fully leaning into the moment.

Berry finally got her long-awaited payback – 22 years later.

At the 2003 Oscars, she presented the award for 'Best Actor' Brody for his role in 'The Pianist'.
But instead of a simple thank you, Brody caused a scandal by pulling Berry in for an unexpected kiss.
The moment became one of the most talked-about in Oscar history, with Brody joking afterward, "I bet they didn't tell you that was in the gift bag", before launching into his acceptance speech.

Over the years, the original kiss has sparked debate, with many arguing that it was inappropriate and lacked Berry’s consent.
Berry later addressed the moment on 'Watch What Happens Live', admitting, "I don't know – I was too focused on what the f*** is going on right now! I don't even know."
