The amount of preparation it takes leading up to these events is almost as gruelling as taking part.
While some people seem to enjoy this torture, many use their participation as an opportunity to raise awareness or funds close to their hearts.

At the end of 2024, actor Colin Farrell ran a marathon with his friend Emma Fogarty, who lives with a rare skin condition called epidermolysis bullosa (EB), to raise funds for DEBRA. This Irish charity supports people with this condition.
There has also been an increase in charity challenges, such as the man known as the Hardest Geezer, who ran across Africa.
Joe Pritchard decided to do a run that was slightly less risky.

He chose to move a treadmill into his local pub, New Inn pub in Shrawley, Worcestershire, where he would run for 24 hours straight.
Through this challenge, Pritchard wanted to raise money for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
He decided to document everything on TikTok, and his run included a broken treadmill, mental blocks, and a bloody nose.

He then collapsed, blacked out and briefly lost his vision. Upon arriving home he blacked out once again, but his health issues were nothing too serious.
It seems like he just needed a nice, relaxing bath.
Luckily he is no longer experiencing extreme pain, but he might not be doing it again any time soon.
